MARRIAGE
All weddings must be arranged with the priest no later than six months prior to the wedding date. All Catholics are required to be married in a Catholic Church. In the case of inter-faith marriages, permission may be given for the wedding to take place in a non-Catholic Church. All prior marriages must be annulled by the Catholic Church.
To be married at St. John Vianney, either the Bride or Groom must be a practicing Catholic and a member of St. John Vianney parish (or another parish, with the permission of that parish’s Pastor).
The engagement period is a time of intense preparation for the life-long commitment of married love. The couple must understand fully the meaning of the vows they will exchange: to live together and love each other for life, to be faithful and true to each other and to be open to the blessing of children. The six month period is the minimum time needed to assist the couple in accomplishing this marriage preparation. The Marriage Preparation Program at St. John Vianney is personalized for each couple during a Pastoral Conference with the Priest.
CONFIRMATION
The Sacrament of Confirmation is received by children in the eighth grade CCD Program, and adults in the RCIA Program.
ANOINTING OF THE SICK
The Catholic sacrament of Anointing of the Sick, formerly known as Last Rites or Extreme Unction, is a ritual of healing appropriate not only for physical but also for mental and spiritual sickness. Anointing of the Sick is performed by the Priest. Please call the parish office at (410) 535-0223 to schedule.
HOLY ORDERS
Those desiring information about the Priesthood or Deaconate are encouraged to talk with the Priest. More information is available at the Archdiocese of Washington Office of Priest Vocations website.
