A Journey of Faith
RCIA
WEEK 14:
Private Prayer / Sacramentals
/ Devotions
Catechism
of the Catholic Church 2644:
“The Holy Spirit who
teaches the Church and recalls to her all that Jesus said also instructs her in
the life of prayer, inspiring new expressions of the same basic forms of
prayer: blessing, petition, intercession, thanksgiving, and praise.”
Catechism
of the Catholic Church 2680:
“Prayer is primarily addressed to the Father;
it can also be directed toward Jesus, particularly by the invocation of his holy
name: "Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on us sinners."
Catechism
of the Catholic Church 2682:
“Because of Mary's singular cooperation with
the action of the Holy Spirit, the Church loves to pray in communion with the
Virgin Mary, to magnify with her the great things the Lord has done for her,
and to entrust supplications and praises to her.”
MEDITATION: How is it different to know about someone and
to know someone personally? Do I pray to God as an acquaintance or as a close
friend?
“God looks neither at long
nor beautiful prayers, but at those that come from the heart.” -- St. John Vianney
