Meeting Highlights
September 6, 2010

The December 2010 meeting of the Men’s Club was held in the Sullivan Room of the Family Life Center.  There were 15 members present.

1.      Opening Prayer:  At the request of the President, Father Pete Alliata led us in the opening prayer.

2.      Welcome:  The President welcomed everyone and briefly covered the agenda for the meeting.  New member Father Alliata was recognized and welcomed.

3.      Secretary Report:  In the absence of the Secretary, the President reported that the Highlights of the last meeting will be circulated by e mail this week for review and comment.

4.      Treasurer Report:  The Club Treasurer, Maurice Erly reported that we are in the process of closing the books for the Church FY ending June 30.  Our club year runs from January to December.  The Church uses July to June, so keeping numbers straight is sometimes challenging.  Our preliminary review shows that we are currently in the black with $254.50 in the church budget starting July 1 of the Church FY.  In addition, we have approximately $ 300.00 from our recent events pending deposit.  According to the Church budget reporting system, last year (July 2009 to June 2010) our total income was $4,332.45 and our expenses were $3,964.74.  These figures do not include the minor income generated each month by our meeting donations.

5.      Pastor’s Report:  Father Daly reported the following news and information.

·        CCD has started and has over 500 children enrolled.  This is the first year that enrollment can be accomplished on line.
·        The Southern Maryland Deacon classes will be meeting here now instead of St. John’s in Hollywood.  Joe Mills and Jim Caldwell are candidates from our church.  The group meets four nights a week, Monday through Thursday.  The meeting will be held in the Juan Diego building on campus.  God’s Gifts occupies the same building.
·        Apparently, Catholic Charities wants to close their activity in Prince Frederick.  Father does not think that is a good idea and has offered space in the Juan Diego Building.  Father noted that the closing might affect the Bishop’s Appeal in a negative manner.  There will be a meeting on Wednesday to discuss alternative.  He hopes to gather support from all the participating churches for the $50 K budget.
·        The trellis has been removed from the patio on the South side of the church and will be replaced by a steel framework.  The old framework was rotting.  Eventually, vines will be planted to grow over the area for shade.
·        There are 5 new Eucharistic ministers.  Bill Prochownick, Many Ann Zaversnik, Michael Thomas, Joe Mills, and Jim Caldwell.
·        Father thanked the Men’s Club for their work in making the annual picnic a great success.  The surprise birthday events were actually a surprise.  This was due to the effort that Jack McFadden invested to coordinate the birthday activities along with the Drama Ministry.
·        Father also expressed his thanks for the work performed at Russell Robertson’s house during his recent medical emergency.  The home is now ready for Russell when he is discharged from the hospital next week.  Members along with Joann Scanlan and Yvette Chadwick cleaned and moved furniture.  Other members repaired, power washed and painted the deck.
·        He also acknowledged the men’s club help in helping to move the Shamkin family to their new house.  The Drama Ministry also helped.
·        The Youth Group schedule is being developed.  They need adult help.  Anyone interested should contact Allie directly.  The Youth Minister is planning a trip to Spain for those 18 or older.
·        September 19th is the International Day of Peace.  There will be a discussion session at 2 PM at the library.

6.      Committee Reports

·        Awards:  Jack Yatsko reported that the additional names of those members purchasing shirts have been submitted to the maker.  The shirts should be ready next week.  Anyone interested in purchasing shirts or Jackets should contact Jack directly by e mail or telephone.  Jack noted that his contact with the company changed and the new staff do not seem as responsive as the previous.
·        Membership:  The President reported that the letter welcoming new men to join the Men’s Club has been completed and will be included in the “New Comers” packet.
·        By Laws:  No changes or comment from Chair Pete Abresch.
