MEETING HIGHLIGHTS
6 July 2009

 

1. Opening Prayer:

The opening prayer was led by Pete Abresch.

 

2. Welcome;

The president welcomed everyone.  A total of 17 members signed in for the meeting.  There were no new members present.

 

3. Secretary Report – The June meeting Highlights were distributed to all members via email.  There were no corrections or additions and the minutes were accepted as distributed. 

 

4. Treasurer Report – The Treasurer report was given by John Thorp.  We are still in the black.  We currently have an approx $600 positive balance. This should be enough to cover the rest of our expenses for the remainder of this year.

 

5. Pastor’s Report - Father Daly was unable to attend.  It was mentioned that he away visiting family this week.   

 

6. Committee reports – Negative report.

  • Special Projects:        Jack McFadden has compiled a list of “Special Projects” that Father would like to have completed.  Some have leaders and Jack is looking for volunteers to lead each of these efforts that do not have leaders.  The projects follow:

·        Parish Picnic:      Steve Pedone. The Parish Picnic: is scheduled for Sunday August 2nd.  Contact Steve Pedone to receive assignments.  Help is needed on Saturday to help set up and on Sunday afternoon to clean up.  A sigh up sheet is available on the front table.

·         

·        Summer Youth Work Camp:       Steve Pedone reported that the coordinator, Jan Pedone is looking for help for the Youth Work Camp.  Specifically they are looking for help planning, inspectors and help overseeing some of the work teams.  Dates are set for July 12th to 18th.  A sign up form is available on the front table for members to volunteer.  Members can also contact Steve or Jan Pedone if you want to help.

 

·        Kitchen Clean up:  Dickie Hayes and Larry Donnelly are planning another clean up in July.  Sign up sheet on the front table.  An e mail will be sent to all members with date and time.

 

7.Old Business  Items from the June Meeting Highlights were reviewed including:

·        June Fishing Trip.  Pete Abresch reported that the June fishing trip was fun and all had a great time.

·        Sunset cruise.  Jack Yatsko reported that the June Evening Cruse out of Solomon’s was a great success.  All had a great time.  Another one is being planned for Sept 12th.

·        Mississippi trip:  Jack McFadden reported on the recent visit to our sister parish in Mississippi.  Father Daley Jack McFadden, Len and Lenny Elter, Joe Garcia, and Dickie Hayes attended the celebration of Father Enslow’s 60th year as a priest.  A special Thank you was recorded for Maurice Erly who provided funding for snacks and refreshments for the SJV group.  Jack McFadden will post pictures and a video of the ceremony on the parish website.  

·        Nicaragua trip:  Larry Donnelly, Don Mueller, and others visited our sister parish in Nicaragua.  Larry shared photos of the trip.  So far our church has built 39 houses with more planned in the future.  This was mainly an inspection trip to see how the building is progressing, meet with the priest parishioners, perspective home owners and people who have received homes.  Larry reported it being a very moving experience.  Larry has taken on a project to help 15 battered women who are trying to get trained as seamstresses.  They are in the need of $1500 to buy 2 to 4 sewing machines, training and supplies. Larry has raised approx $800 so far and would like to give Father Bayardo the funds when he visits us in August.  See Larry Donnelly if you want to help.

 

8. New Business:

·        Golf trip:  24 August Contact Chuck Knapper if you are interested.

·        Evening cruse out of the Solomon’s Island Marine Museum.  June 13th   Leave at 6:00 return by 9:00pm.  Participants will bring own drinks and a dish to share.  Cost is about $17.50 per person. Contact Jack Yatsko to reserve space.

·        Eagle Scout golf outing: schedule for July 10th.  It is to help raise money to complete Ed Bryner’s Eagle Project.  $75 at Chesapeake Hills starting at 0800.  Contact Ed Bryner if you are interested.

·        Kitchen Cleanup: Scheduled for 25th of July.  Both kitchens will be worked.  See Dickie Hayes or Larry Donnelly if you want to help.
