 MEETING HIGHLIGHTS
April 6, 2009

 

1. Opening Prayer:

The opening prayer was led by Pete Abresch.

 

2. Welcome;

The President welcomed everyone and asked if there were any new members present.  There were none.  Joe Pilkington’s neighbor Earl Thompson attended as his guest.

 

3. Secretary Report – The secretary read the Highlights from the February meeting.  There were no corrections or additions suggested, thus the minutes were accepted as read.  The meeting in March was canceled due to snow.

 

4. Treasurer Report – In the absence of John Thorp, the Treasurer’s report was given by Joe Garcia.  Because of scheduling conflicts between the responsible parties, the annual budget plan has not been finalized.  The Strove Tuesday function was not only enjoyed by all who attended, it was also a financial success.  We now have a positive budget balance but over all budget implications will not be known until the annual budget is established.  Our meeting e

 

5. Activity Reports

 

Upcoming activities

1. Summer Youth Work Camp.  We are looking for help this summer for the Youth Work Camp.    From the Men’s club they are looking for planning, inspectors and help overseeing some of the work teams.  We will provide information as it is provided to the Men’s Club.

2.  Easter Egg Hunt.  The Knights of Columbus members requested help setting out the eggs for kids on Easter.  Volunteers should meet on the football field at 10:00 am.   

·        3.  Golf trip.  No date set.  We are looking at a one day trip to the eastern shore.  Please call Steve Pedone or Chuck Knapper if interested.

·        4.  Fishing Trip Pete Abresch is organizing a fishing trip to the Eastern Shore on May 17th.  Cost will be about $125 to $140.  Call Pete if you are interested.

·        5.  Evening cruse out of the Solomon’s Island Marine Museum.  The date is June 13thth from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM.  Approximately 22 persons can be accommodated, first come first served.  Jack Yatsko indicated that he has received payment from 14 people and four others have indicated interest.  Jack must pay the Museum by May 30, so don’t wait till the last minute to decide to go.  Bring a dish to share and drinks of choice.  Cost is $17.50 per person.  Contact Jack Yatsko.

·        Committee reports:–

·        1. Pete Abresch’s By Laws committee is working on reviewing the bylaws and will provide a copy as soon as that is completed..  Nothing to report at this time

·        2. Special Projects:  Jack McFadden reported that the safe nights storage closet and the brake room kitchen move have been completed.   The parking pad for the lift has been delayed because of weather constraints.  Dickie Hayes will be working on installing a motion activated light by the chapel.

·         

6. Old Business

·        Stove Tuesday Chris Burton thanked the Men club members who helped.  We served about 197 people. Thanks to Chris Burton, Coordinator, and cooks, cleaners, servers: Chuck Knapper, Dave Hogenson, Dickie Hayes, Larry Sullivan, Larry Smialek, Chuck Santerre, Joe Pilkington, Pete Abresch, Dave Chadwick, TP Voegtli Bill Prochownik, Joe Garcia.

·        Kitchen Cleaning:  Dickie Hayes coordinated the clean-up of the Vianney Room kitchen and Larry Donnelly the cleaning of the Family Life Center kitchen.  They were assisted by Paul Helms, Russell Robertson, Dave Hogenson, John Thorp, Joe Pikington Larry Smialek.  Dickie and Larry plan to do this at least twice a year to maintain a minimum level of cleanliness. 

·        Men’s retreat.  Maury Mattingly reported that 38 men from Calvert County attended.  He indicated that there is always room for more.  Please invite a friend next year.

·        Cursillo Weekend:  There were 15 new brothers inducted.  The next weekend for men will be in November.  The next weekend for women will be in October.

·        Steve Padone was presented with a certificate of thanks for his past service as Vice President of the Men’s Club.

 

7. New Business:

  • -The President recognized Rocky Ragano for making the new President’s gavel.

8. Pastor’s Report:  (Father Daly’s report given by Jack McFadden) – Jack reported on some of the plans and activities which involve the men’s club.

o       Father extended thanks to all Men’s Club participants who helped with the safe-nights project.

o       The church is in the process of purchasing the Echo property.  Birth right will be moving into the property currently being used by Echo.

o       The church completed the visioning workshop.  Jack provided a brief review of the workshop findings.  The attendees voted to move ahead with the following projects:  Remodeling of the Vanity, Renovate the rooms for religious education.  Voted to moving ahead with the Echo and Birth Right projects. 

 

 

 

9. Prayers for the sick and others:

1.      Members of the Men’s club also asked for prayers for the following: Ruth Mattingly, Megan DeGeury, Pat Erly, Elaine Donnelly, Linda Sauls, Elizabeth Strong, Mr. and Mrs. Doran, Norma Garcia, Victor Thomas, Ethel and Walt Sands. 

 

The meeting was adjourned at approximately 8:15 PM and members remained to socialize.
