PAST MEETING HIGHLIGHTS
4 May 2009

1. Opening Prayer:

The opening prayer was led by Father Daly.

2. Welcome;

The president welcomed everyone and asked if there were any new members present.  No one would admit being new.  Plenty, admitted being old and cranky.

3. Secretary Report – The secretary read the minutes from the April minutes.  There were no corrections suggested, thus the minutes were accepted.

4. Treasurer Report – The Treasurer report was given by Joe Garcia.  We made money at the last few events.  We now have a balance of about $???.  It is expected this will be spent through the year.

5. Father Daly’s report -  Father reported on some of the plans and activities which involve the men’s club.

o       Father welcomed and thanked the new officers of the Mens club.  I am not sure he will still thank the procrastinating secretary.

o       This past year, there are 54 new members to the church.  We usually loose about 25.  Thus are ranks are slowly growing.

o       Father attended an Arch Diocesan meeting to discuss closing schools and increasing the parish tax.  The current business model for Catholic schools is not working.  There are not enough students for the number schools in the Washington DC area.  Thus there will be another round of school closing.  Also the church collection tax for schools will increase from 2% to 9%.  The overall Diocesan Tax will now be 23%.

o       A new priest will be visiting us, A Father Matt Allomd.(not sure about the spelling)

o       Father Enslow, of the Our Mother of Mercy church in Pass Christian MS will be celebrating his 60th year as a priest.  As a Church, We will be organizing a group to attend this calibration.

o       Two members of our community have entered the Deaconate program, Jim Cadwell and Joe Mills.  4 applied and 2 were accepted.  Let us pray for them during this journey.
