MEETING HIGHLIGHTS
2 November 2009
 
 

The November meeting was held in the Sullivan Room of the Family Life Center.  There were 19 members present. 

 

1. Opening prayer:  Led by T.P. Voegtli. 

 

2. Welcome:  The President welcomed everyone. 

 

3. Secretary Report – The October Meeting Highlights were previously distributed to all members via email.  As there were no corrections or additions to date, the minutes were accepted as distributed and will be posted on the web site.

 

4. Treasurer Report – In the absence of the Treasurer, Maurice Erly reported that we are in the Black for monthly meeting operations after paying for the beverages and finger food.  He also reported that the Events Budget is also in the black.  We hope to have a detailed report for the December meeting. 

 

5. Pastor’s Report – No Pastor’s report.  Father Daly was tied up in a meeting but managed to make it before we closed.

 

6. Committee reports

            Awards Committee:.  Jack Yatsko reported that he is working on securing shirts, jackets and hats for purchase.  Joe Garcia, Dave Hogenson and Maurice Erly are working with him on this committee.  A sign up sheet was provided for members to indicate interest and sizes.  Members may also provide sizes directly to Jack or the President via e mail or telephone.  We hope to have samples at the December meeting.  Jack will also check with Bill Redfield concerning the purchase of sweat suits, currently being provided to returning wounded at Andrews AFB.  A special certificate was presented to Dickie Hayes and George Sullivan in appreciation of their efforts to catch sufficient crabs for the Crab Feast.  Both Dickie and George used their own boats in support of the effort.

            Nominating Committee:  The President again asked for nominees for President, V.P., Treasurer and Secretary.  Interested members should notify the President by November 20th.  He also needs a volunteer to chair the nominating committee.

            By Laws Committee:  The President has previously proposed that the By Laws be amended   to allow the Vice President to be the President elect for the following year.  All candidates for VP must agree to this stipulation.  (To be discussed/voted at the December meeting since it was not presented at the November meeting.

 

7. Activity Reports:

            Old Business

·        Special Projects:  Jack McFadden announced that he has resigned as the parish Facilities Committee.  Bruce Brooks has assumed some of the responsibilities.

·        Kitchen Clean up: Dickie Hayes and Larry Donnelly announced that they would be in touch with those who volunteered to help.  They anticipate that it will be after the Oyster Fest, probably in January, 2010.

·        Sunset Boat Cruise: Jack Yatsko reported that the cruse was a great success and a profit of  xxx would be provided for the Club

·        The Annual Crab Feast: The Feast was a big success.  As agreed, the profit of $250.00 dollars will be donated to Echo in the Club’s name.  The funds will be sent to Echo via check and letter signed by Father Daly and the President.  In addition, about 1 and ½ bushels of crabs was donated to the residents. 

·        Men’s Club Fall Golf Outing October 12th.  Steve Pedone reported that the outing was a success and that all eleven (11) participants had a good time.

·         

New Business: (To be discussed at December 2nd meeting)

·        The Annual Shrimp and Oysters feast is scheduled for December 4, the first Friday in December.  This will also serve as our December meeting and election of officers.  Steve Pedone is the coordinator. Contact him directly if you want to help with set up, cooking, clean up.  The menu includes oysters, steamed and raw, crab soup, lasagna, and other items.  The club will furnish the beverages.  Costs for oysters are $62 per gallon.  Four  (4) gallons of oysters are usually consumed.  A volunteer sign up sheet was available.

·        Safe Nights:  Dickie Hayes announced that he, Russell Robertson and Joe Garcia will be cooking breakfast for Safe Nights every morning during Thanksgiving week and Holy week.  Anyone wishing to help should contact Dickie.  Other members have volunteered to help with other meals and monitoring during the two weeks that our church is responsible for these folks.  A volunteer coordination/orientation meeting has been set for November 7th in the church basement.

·        Project ECHO happenings.  The President reported that Jack McFadden, Rocky Ragano, Skip Ford, Bill Stanton, and Joe Garcia helped with the move to the new facility and with the installation of ceiling fans. 

·        Election of Officers for 2010.  The President announced that the election of new officers for 2010 will be conducted at the December meeting.   If a slate is available prior to the meeting the President will send it to everyone via e mail. 

·        Old Echo House:  Bruce Brooks asked for help concerning the destruction of the old Echo House...Apparently, any remaining items in the house are available to anyone who can cart it off.  He indicated that items included room fans, bunk beds, window air conditioners and other items are available.  Anyone wishing to take anything in the house should contact him, as the doors are locked.  The President will send out an e mail reminding everyone

·        Youth Minister’s House:  Bruce also asked for help in the painting and minor renovation of the house where the new Youth Minister will live.  A sign up list is available for members to indicate how they can help.  The President will send out an e mail reminding everyone of the dates help is needed.

·        God’s Gift Sign: Bruce also asked for help installing the sign in front of the new location for the religious articles store.  Contact Bruce directly if you can help.  The President agreed to help.

·        Parish Council:  Chuck Knapper asked about the status of events at the Parish Council.  Apparently, the Past President use to serve as the Men’s Club representative to that meeting.  The President agreed to this and Chuck will attend and periodically report back to the members.

·        Thanksgiving:  Larry Donnelly will be preparing a meal for orphans and the homeless.  He needs help in setup and cleanup.  Volunteers should contact Larry directly.
