MEETING HIGHLIGHTS
February 2, 2009

 

1. Opening Prayer:

The opening prayer was lead by Chuck Knapper.

 

2. Welcome;

The President welcomed everyone and asked if there were any new members present.  Joe Pilkington introduced his neighbor Earl Thompson. Also welcomed was new active member Bill Prochownik

 

3. Secretary Report – The Secretary had a negative report concerning the January Meeting.

 

4. Treasurer Report – The Treasurer indicated that the club finances are in the black since we received more money than we expended for the January meeting.  The President and the Treasurer reported that a total budget estimate is being developed for the events planned this year.. 

 

5. Activity Reports

 

  • Upcoming activities:

1.      Chuck Knapper reported that everything is on track for the Sweetheart       Social, February 13, at 7:30 in the Festival Room.  Attendees are asked to bring a covered dish and a beverage of choice. 

2.      The Ladies Club has been invited and has distributed our invitation to its members.

3.      Chris Burton reported on Strove Tuesday.  The event will be held from 5:00 PM to 7:30 PM in the Vianney room.  Cooking and set up volunteers should report at 3 pm.  The dinner will begin at 5:00 PM.

 

  • Committee reports:  Projects:

1.      Special Projects under Jack McFadden has been working on a closet in the church basement for safe nights Storage.  And they are also working on a renovation of space to help relocate Father’s Office and a parking pad for the lift. 

2.      . Interested members should contact Jack McFadden.

 

 

 

6. Old Business

1.      Maury Mattingly reported on the Men’s retreat that will be held at the Washington Retreat Center, February 20 through 22, 2009.  He said that he could accept up to 20 more men for the retreat. Several members voiced their endorsement of the activity as a way to refocus their spirituality.

            2. Interested members should contact Maury.  No other old business was          discussed.

 

7. New Business

1.      George Sullivan reported on the March 12 to 15, Men’s 198th Cursillo weekend.  He asked for volunteers to help support the team that will be conducting the weekend. 

2.      Dickie Hayes suggested that the men’s club undertake the cleaning of the kitchen in the Vianney Room.  Larry Donnelly also indicated that the vent in the   Family Life Center Kitchen also needs attention.  Dickie Hayes agreed to coordinate the projects.  The President agreed to ask the ladies club to work with us on this project.  Volunteers should contact Mr. Hayes as the POC.

3.      Chuck Knapper reported that the Drama Ministry will be performing “A handful of Nails”, April 3rd and 4th..  He suggested that the Men’s Club support        the play since 5 members are participating.

4.      All present sang Happy Birthday to Dickie Hayes.

 

8. Pastor’s Report

            Negative Report since Father Daly was not present.

 

9. Prayer for the sick and others:

1.      The President had indicated earlier that flowers had been delivered by Maurice Erly on behalf of the Men’s Club, to Walt Sands, at his home. 

2.      Members of the Men’s club also asked for prayers for the following: Jimmy Beach, Joe Daglel, Elaine & Larry Donnelly, Connie and John Hayden, Women of the 197th Cursillo, Diane Wood, Louise Sutter, Charlene Sparrow, Erika Longerfeld, Florence Knapper, Walter Sands, Jack and Jean Doran, for those killed in Juarez Mexico recently. 

 

10. Additional:

1.      Prior to adjourning the meeting, the President briefly explained the design of the       new Men’s Club web site. (See attached Index)  He provided hard copies to all members that wanted one.  The information is available for review on the Church Web Site.  Thanks to Jack McFadden for all his work in bringing the site on line.  Additional information such as a complete active member list, Bylaws, etc., will be added as it is developed.  The President briefly described the Calendar of Events for 2009 and asked for volunteers to fill the vacant committee chairs and event points of contacts.  Members were asked to visit the site and provide feedback to the President.

2.      During the meeting, there was a discussion about vascular screening that is available at Calvert Memorial.  Larry Donnelly agreed to get the information and provide it to the President for distribution to all members.

3.      On behalf of all Club members, the President also presented the Past President Chuck Knapper and the Past Treasurer Maurice Erly with Certificates of Appreciation for their dedicated service over the past 2 years.  The Past Vice President, Steve Padone, was not in attendance, and will be recognized at a later date.

 

            The meeting was adjourned at 8:10 PM.  Members remained to socialize and    partake in the 50-50 raffle. 

 

Action Items:

1.      Distribute vascular screening dates and times from Larry Donnelly to all members.

2.      Contact Women’s Club President to invite them to work with us to clean the kitchens.

3.      Secure copy of Bylaws and appoint Chair of Bylaws Committee.

4.      Send copy of list of volunteers to Mr. Hayes for Kitchen clean-up.

5.      Send list of volunteers to Mr. Burton for Shrove Tuesday Event.
